Man wakes up after 12 years in coma and Unknow state”tells what he sees”..

When Martin Pistorius was 12-years-old, he came down with a strange illness that caused him to lose his ability to walk, talk and make eye contact, NPR.org reported. Pistorius, of Harlow, England, appeared to be in a coma-like state, and doctors scratched their heads over his condition. Their best bet: crypotococcal meningitis. They told Rodney and Joan Pistorius, his parents, who were living in South Africa at the time, to take their son home because his time left was limited. But, his mother said, “Martin just kept going, just kept going.” Indeed, Pistorius kept going— insofar as his mind stayed active— for 12 years. Although his parents thought he’d been akin to a vegetable physically and mentally, Pistorius, now 39, says he regained consciousness about two years after the condition assaulted his body. In sum, he still couldn’t speak or move, but he could think, he told NPR. “Everyone was so used to me not being there that they didn't notice when I began to...

Does Saliva Kill Sperm If You’re Trying to Get Pregnant?.

You and your partner have decided to ditch the birth control pills, throw out the condoms, and start trying to get pregnant. You’ve seen your gynecologist for a preconception appointment, and you’ve started taking prenatal vitamins. There’s nothing left to do but the deed! But many couples find that what used to be simple and natural is suddenly fraught with concerns. Is there a right way to have baby-making sex? Does position matter? Can you still use lubricants? Do you need to rest afterward? Here’s the truth about some common baby-making myths. Myth: Saliva can kill sperm cells. We’ll override Buhari’s veto, National Assembly vows.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s veto of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill might not have long to fly, as the Senate steps up moves to override it . The ‘Like Minds Senators’ have already begun mobilising their colleagues for the legislative show of force. The group, led by Dino Melaye, had in June 2015 steered intrigues that ensured Bukola Saraki emerged as Senate President. Buhari on Tuesday withheld assent to the controversial bill passed by the lawmakers on February 14, 2018. The bill, a potential game changer, re-ordered the sequence of next year’s general election, making the National Assembly first and the presidential last. As at yesterday, it was unclear whether the ‘Unity Forum Senators’ had started any move besides earlier effort by 10 of the members to stop the re-ordering of the election sequence. It was gathered that many of the 43 senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are favourably disposed to quashing the veto. Although the Like Minds Senators dominated the All Progressives Congress...

Venus sets up semi-final clash with Kasatkina.

Seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams reached the WTA Indian Wells semi-finals for the first time since 2001 on Thursday by routing Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-3, 6-2. Despite the windy conditions, Williams improved to 5-2 on the season, which includes a third round win on Monday over sister Serena, who was making her return to the WTA after having a baby. “You kind of hope for this kind of scoreline, but you never know if you’re actually going to get it,” Williams said. Williams, who at 37 is the oldest player in the women’s draw, has played sparingly this year but is just beginning to step up her game. She next faces 20-year-old Russian Daria Kasatkina, who cruised to an easy 6-0, 6-2 victory in 58 minutes over the world number 10 Angelique Kerber. She dominated Suarez Navarro, who became increasingly frustrated and had to call her coach a couple of times to come down to the court in between sets for advice. “We’ve...

Tackling gender disparities as Nigeria stagnates on the Global Gender Gap table.

Tackling gender disparities as Nigeria stagnates on the Global Gender Gap table.

The World Economic Forum has ranked Nigeria 122, four places behind the previous year, in the 2017 Global Gender Gap Report. The GGGR is a framework for capturing the magnitude and scope of gender-based disparities and tracking their progress over time. Since 2006, when the reports were first published to include more than 100 countries, the lowest ranks have been occupied by some of the most populous developing countries. It was in this same year that Nigeria ranked her highest yet: 94 out of 114 countries. Eleven years later, 30 more countries added, and Nigeria has moved 28 places below. While the current report notes that a total of 68 percent of the world’s gender gap is now closed, with the reversal driven by declining gender equality in the workplace and political representation, we examine Nigeria’s stagnancy on the GGG table. It’s been eleven years of motion yet no movement for Nigerian females. As it is in many African countries, being a...

Ooops! South Korean ex-president Lee admits taking $100,000 from spy agency.

Former South Korean president Lee Myung-bak has admitted receiving $100,000 from the state spy agency while still in office, reports said Thursday, after he faced a marathon interrogation by prosecutors over corruption allegations. Lee returned home Thursday after lengthy questioning as he became the last of the country’s living ex-leaders to be embroiled in a criminal inquiry. He denied most corruption charges but admitted taking the off-book funds from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) via a presidential aide, Yonhap news agency said Thursday, citing a prosecution official. Allegations of graft involving the conservative 76-year-old’s relatives and aides during his term have mounted in recent weeks as prosecutors investigate multiple cases of bribery amounting to millions of dollars. The probe means that all four living former South Korean presidents have been convicted, charged, or investigated for criminal offences. Lee spent more than 21 hours at the prosecutors’ office in Seoul from Wednesday morning, and did not reply to questions from journalists outside as he left. “President Lee...
